Ready for some Salt Lake City lore? đ Â Three years ago, the Salt Lake City Public Art Program unveiled âOut Of The Blueâ, a life-sized humpback whale sculpture breaching out of a traffic circle in the 9th and 9th neighborhood. Why a whale? Utah doesnât have sea creatures! The 9th and 9th Whale is a monument to a community where people from all backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures can find a sense of belonging. Â Since the Whaleâs dedication in April 2022, the local Wasatch Mountains have seen some of the greatest snow years ever, including one of the snowiest springs on record immediately following the sculptureâs unveiling, and the 2022-23 winter that delivered 903+ inches of powder. This inspired The Church of the Sacred Whale of Ninth and Ninth, celebrating the Sacred Whale who is credited with delivering much needed moisture to our drought-stricken region.Â
